Books on Peachland on sale at the Museum
The Story of Peachland
by Don Wigfield The focus of this new book is to tell the story of Peachland’s history in a chronological sequence, something that has not been done previously. Fully indexed and illustrated, and organized by decade, it provides the reader with the means to find out what happened, say, in the 1950’s, or 1960’s, the 1920’s, or any other decade. Another feature of the book is that it has several chapters on what happened here prior the founding of Peachland in 1898. This includes a chapter on the Salish Indians, who travelled this land for centuries prior to the arrival of the Europeans. Another chapter covers the Fur Brigades, which came through this area from 1821 to 1847. Other chapters tell the story of the struggles between the Americans and the British for this part of British Columbia and then the coming of the Canadian Pacific Railway which, together with the launch of the SS Aberdeen, finally opened up this area to settlers from other parts of Canada. This is a book that tells the story of this land and this town from earliest times right up to the present. |

PEACHLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY OPENS PEACHLAND FIRE & RESCUE DISPLAY BUILDING
Sunday, August 5, 2018
Sunday, August 5, 2018
On Sunday, August 5, the Peachland Historical Society celebrated the grand opening of its new Peachland Fire & Rescue display building located outside the Peachland Museum. Okanagan Town Crier Bruce Klippenstein hailed the public to the event which started at the Peachland Museum at 1:30 pm with President Barbara Dionne making a presentation speech and Mayor Fortin cutting the ribbon surrounded by members of the Peachland Fire and Rescue Brigade who largely funded the construction project. The ceremony proceeded with the antique fire hose-cart (which the new building houses for display purposes) being drawn to the Rotary Pavilion in Heritage park. There at 2 pm a cake was cut and served to the public.
