ABOUT US

PCAC Mandate & Statement of Purpose

The mandate of the Peachland Community Arts Council (PCAC) is to stimulate, develop, and encourage all the arts (literary, visual, and performing) in the beautiful surroundings of our Okanagan community.

The PCAC recognizes the Arts as being a major contributor to the overall quality of life and economic well-being of Peachland and the Okanagan. It is our aim to bring together Artists and Artisans of all media and all ages and to coordinate either their individual or group interests in expressing their talents.

We feel it extremely important that the general public (particularly our youth) be able to participate not only in listening to, viewing, or reading artistic works but also in the practical expression of such.

Now that we have the Peachland Art Gallery located in the Peachland Historic School we will be featuring not only local recreational artists from time to time but also outstanding exhibits of those professional artists, photographers, sculptors, potters, etc. from around the Okanagan but perhaps at some point those from other parts of BC and Canada as well.

We intend to work together in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses to promote these aims and make Peachland a Canadian destination year round.

Our History

Picture
The Peachland Community Arts Council was formed in 1997 as an initiative of the Peachland Economic Development Committee. Realtor, Maggie Legg was the moving force behind the formation of the local arts council. It became a Society officially the next year. Over the years, the PCAC has hosted a variety of events including the Medieval Festival, Art in the Park, Ogopogo Art Festival, Children’s Art Festivals, Art Fairs, Volunteer Appreciation Teas, and of course the ongoing annual HeARTS Festival.
The Rotary Club’s historic wall at the south end of Peachland was painted by members of the Arts Council under the direction of Robyn Lake. The Children’s Millennium Tile Wall in 4th St. Place was another Arts Council project with Robyn Lake. For a number of years the summer street banners have been painted by members of the arts community.
