Join artist Jim Elwood for four engaging evenings exploring the fundamentals of portrait drawing. Each session will focus on a different view of the face while developing your understanding of proportion, structure, tone, and form.
Evening 1 — Mapping the Face
Straight-On View
Learn how to map and proportion the face, with special emphasis on eye shape and placement.
Medium: Graphite or Conté
Evening 2 — Side Profile
Explore the structure and proportions of the face in side profile, with an emphasis on creating form through tone and shading.
Medium: Graphite or Conté
Evening 3 — Three-Quarter View
Learn how to capture the face from a three-quarter perspective, building on the skills developed in the first two sessions.
Evening 4 — Artist’s Choice
Bring your own reference imagery and work individually on a portrait of your choice, with personal guidance and instruction from Jim.
