The Shape of Freedom: Whispers from the Edge is an immersive journey through rupture, resistance, transformation, and restoration. Spanning 32 abstract works this series charts the emotional topography of reclaiming the self. It explores what freedom feels like when shaped by lived experience: as an immigrant, a woman, and an artist who once lived in silence.
These paintings are not mere abstractions; they are echoes of survival and emergence. Through bold textures, layered paint, and fluid motion, each piece gives form to internal terrains like grief, defiance, healing, and release. The circular canvases represent universality, introspection, and continuity; the rectangular works offer grounding and anchoring presence. Together, they form a language of movement and stillness, expansion and return.
This exhibition invites viewers to ask: What is the shape of your freedom? And how does your shape break, move, or burn?
Artist Statement
What does freedom look like when it is not granted, but claimed, shaped in silence, carved in motion, forged in fire?
In this series, freedom is not a flag or a finished idea. It is a process: raw, vulnerable, defiant, and ever-changing. Each painting is a moment in that journey. Some arrive in rupture, others in resistance. Some spiral with momentum. Some pause. Some dissolve. Together, they form an abstract cartography of emotional terrain.
I work in interpretive abstraction, layering fluid acrylics, heavy textures, and resin to construct spaces that feel as much as they reveal. Circular canvases appear throughout the series as recurring symbols of introspection, continuity, and universality. Rectangular works, by contrast, anchor the viewer, offering vertical tension, horizontal rest, or sweeping conflict.
Each composition is a gesture, a breath made visible. I follow the emotional undercurrent of a shape before I name it. Sometimes the result resembles a voice rising. Sometimes a collapse. Sometimes a bird in flight. The process is intuitive, yet precise; instinctive, yet deeply considered.
The Shape of Freedom is not about declaring what freedom is. It is about listening to its echoes through colour, through gesture, through the spaces between forms. These are the whispers from the edge made visible
