Peachland Strummers

The Peachland Strummers have been meeting for close to fifteen years with lively rehearsals, learning new techniques and performance standards. Everyone is invited to join regardless of playing ability.

Membership:

  • We average 15 players per week (8 - 20)

  • We gather at the 50+ on Thursdays at 1- 3 pm. All are members of the 50+ Centre

  • Two of the members play banjo ukulele, and two play harmonica which gives timbre to many of the pieces

  • We meet all year, taking the month of August off to enjoy the Okanagan sunshine

  • We are a very social group spending our final half hour with a coffee time.

Rehearsal:

  • We begin with finger warm ups, scales, picking patterns with song

  • We have all purchased the 3 books from the Delta Ukulele group

  • Many of our members attend a yearly weekend ukulele workshop in Sorrento returning with enthusiasm and new avenues to explore

  • After a 30–40 minute technique and warm up we proceed to a round- robin of selecting pieces to play, with chording patterns, for that week

  • Starting Nov 1st, we switch to our Seasonal repertoire and prepare for our performances in December.

Performances:

Twice a year we join the United Church to participate in their Musical Meditation Service

During December we visit three care facilities and perform for an hour for the residents. After our first two performances we go afterwards for coffee and following the final performance we treat ourselves to dinner out ( we are a social group).

The ensemble performed at one of the talent showcases at Our Space

This year we are heading to Penticton July 27th to perform at the Forget Me Not Cafe then have a meal together before we break for the summer.
