Books on the history of Peachland currently available at the Peachland Museum

The Story of Peachland, 3rd edition, by Don Wigfield (2018)

This 91-page book covers the chronological history of Peachland, arranged largely by decade. It also has several chapters on the history prior to the founding of the town in 1898, such as the Fur Brigade Trail, and the events that made the creation of communities on Okanagan Lake viable.

Peachland: A Pictorial History of the First 100 Years, by Richard Smith (2008)

This book was produced as a centennial project of the Peachland Historical Society and contains many early photographs from the author’s personal collection.

The Chronicles of Peachland: History of the Years from the beginning until 1983 (2017)

This book is a reissue of the first 210 pages of the classic (and now out-of-print) Peachland Memories volumes, containing the memories of the Peachland pioneers still alive in the early 1980’s. This is the purely historical section of these volumes. Unlike the original books, this new issue is now fully indexed, allowing the reader to more easily find desired information.

The Chronicles of Peachland: History of the Years 1984–2012 (2013)

This 278-page volume, with 78 articles on different aspects of Peachland life was produced by the Peachland Historical Society in 2013 to update Peachland happenings in the 30 years from the time that Peachland Memories was completed in 1983. Fully indexed, the book was the work of 43 different authors, each writing about the events or society on which they were directly involved.

Peachland: 100 Years of Council Meetings (multi-authored)

This book was the centennial project of the municipal staff and captures important or amusing items from meetings of Peachland Council over the years.

Coming soon…

The Roads of Peachland: the Historical Origin of their Names, 2nd edition, by Don Wigfield (2011)

This first edition of this book, now sold out, contains the background to all the road names in Peachland, the majority of which honour individuals or families who have made a difference in enhancing the quality of life in Peachland. The second edition, expected to be available in fall 2018, will expand the information to include both new roads built since 2011, as well as names for future roads that have been approved by Council.

The Pioneer Families of Peachland

This book will be a reissue of the family sections of Peachland Memories (pages 211-346 of Volume I and all of Volume II). It will also contains a full index – the absence of which was a severe drawback to using the original volumes. This index is currently in preparation and it is hoped that the book will be available in early 2019.

.PEACHLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY OPENS PEACHLAND FIRE & RESCUE DISPLAY BUILDING
Sunday, August 5, 2018
On Sunday, August 5, the Peachland Historical Society celebrated the grand opening of its new Peachland Fire & Rescue display building located outside the Peachland Museum. Okanagan Town Crier Bruce Klippenstein hailed the public to the event which started at the Peachland Museum at 1:30 pm with President Barbara Dionne making a presentation speech and Mayor Fortin cutting the ribbon surrounded by members of the Peachland Fire and Rescue Brigade who largely funded the construction project. The ceremony proceeded with the antique fire hose-cart (which the new building houses for display purposes) being drawn to the Rotary Pavilion in Heritage park. There at 2 pm a cake was cut and served to the public.

Deathtrap –  April 15 to May 5

A hugely popular stage and screen success, this ingeniously constructed play offers a rare and skilful blending of two priceless theatrical ingredients - gasp-inducing thrills and spontaneous laughter. Unknown dramatist Clifford Anderson has sent his new thriller to award-winning Broadway author Sidney for comment - or has he- Without a success to his credit for some years, Sidney plots with his reluctant wife Myra about how best to plagiarize 'Deathtrap' and when Clifford turns up to discuss the play with the 'Master' events take a sinister turn.

Many Hats Announces 2020 Season!

 Open Auditions October 16

Welcome to 2020!

Many Hats Theatre Company Executive Producer Eric Hanston is pleased to announce the lineup for Many Hats' thirteenth season commencing in February 2020. "2020 has everything" says Hanston "British and American farce, a Canadian classic and plays from the pens of some of the world's foremost playwrights. Something for everyone! We are hoping to build on the success of Many Hats' 12 previous seasons. We are very appreciative of the overwhelming support of all our fans!"

The Thirteenth Season:

  • February 6-29 'Of the Fields Lately' by David French

In this brilliant sequel to his first play "Leaving Home" David French reunites the Mercer family under the pressure of Jacob's imminent death. Son, Ben returns home after an absence of two years to find his mother and Jacob's best friend Wiff, trying to sustain his father. A heart attack has forced Jacob out of work and he can't reconcile himself to his frightening situation. Everyone in the play discovers something about himself, under the pressure of imminent death.

  • April 9-May 2 "This Random World" by Steven Dietz

Mining the comedy of missed connections, 'This Random World' asks the serious question of how often we travel parallel paths through the world without noticing. From an ailing woman who plans one final trip, to her daughter planning one great escape and her son falling prey to a prank gone wrong, this funny, intimate, and heartbreaking play explores the lives that may be happening just out of reach of our own.

Director: Jamie Eberle

July 2-25 "The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery" By David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jr.
Every drama group has experienced the horrors of what can go wrong on opening night, and the ladies of the F.A.H.E.T.G. Dramatic Society are no different, with the possible exception that almost everything that could happen does! The scenery collapses, cues are missed, lines forgotten, and the sound effects take on a strange note at times, as the ladies present their ambitious evening's entertainment with the cunning whodunit, "Murder At Checkmate Manor." And just in case the audience should get bored there's a Film and Fashion Show and Murder Mystery Quiz, complete with a Prize!

Director Jeanne Wnuk

September 10-October 3 "Love Song" by John Kolvenbach
Beane is an exile from life-an oddball. His well-meaning sister Joan and brother-in-law Harry try and make time for him in their busy lives, but no one can get through. Following the burglary of his apartment, Joan is baffled to find her brother blissfully happy and tries to unravel the story behind Beane's mysterious new love Molly.

Director: Tammy Hansel

November 12-December 5 "Greater Tuna" by Joe Sears and Jaston Williams

The hilarious comedy about Texas' third smallest town, where the Lion's Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies! The eclectic band of citizens that make up this town are portrayed by only two actors, making this satire on life in rural America even more delightful as they depict all of the inhabitants of Tuna-men, women, children and animals!

Director: Ed Schneider
