Restoring the Rotary Wall
July - August, 2019
July - August, 2019
Volunteers in the Peachland Community Arts Council are once again tackling the restoration of the Rotary Historic Mural.
This is our second attempt at a "touchup" on the wall. Last time was 8 or 9 years ago. The wall was in pretty bad shape and we spent many hours sanding & filling cracks. Painting is underway and we anticipate it will take the whole month of August to complete the project. The cost of the paints is being shared between the Rotary and the Arts Council. We are being very careful to keep the painting close to the original.
Some Peachlanders may not know the history of the mural. In 1999 the Rotary commissioned local artist, Robyn Lake to create the historic story of Peachland. As a fundraiser, residents paid to have their likeness painted in the beach scene. As we've been working this week, so many people have stopped by to point out themselves, their grandchildren, their car and even their dog!

In Oct. 2019 & early 2020 the mural was vandalized twice and was restored once again to its original state as a result of many volunteer hours.
